We present four major concerts a year, in October, December, March and May on two consecutive nights. In February, we present our Showcase Concert. We also collaborate with other area choirs and ensembles. In July of 2008, members of our chorale will perform in the Lucerne (Switzerland) International Choral Festival.
The Cherry Creek Chorale performs the world's greatest choral music. We sing a varied repertoire from well-known classics to contemporary works including several works we have commissioned. Our artistic director selects programs, themes, and repertoire with input from the artistic committee and audience members, which includes anthems, motets, masses, cantatas, opera choruses, oratorios, show tunes, folk songs, spirituals, and audience sing-a-longs.
The Chorale sings both a cappella and/or accompanied by piano, organ, solo instruments, ensembles, or full orchestra. In our February, we "Showcase" our members' talents as they step out of the Chorale and into the spotlight in individual and ensemble arrangements. Every other year, we invite a special guest to share the "Showcase" spotlight with our own performers. Audiences enjoy a wide variety of music including: jazz groups, operatic arias, silly songs, and instrumentals presented in a cabaret style.
This year we celebrate all things British in four major concerts and our annual Showcase. Come relish the glorious acoustics of Bethany Lutheran Church, one of Denver's favorite chorale venues. Our repertoire runs the gamut from popular to classical, folk songs to show tunes, sacred to secular.
Our October Concert celebrates British (and other) women, past and present, with the music of Purcell, Tavener, Britten, Rutter, Gilbert and Sullivan, and Elgar, to name just a few. Britten's ever-popular Ceremony of Carols kicks off our December Concert, which also features the Cherry Creek Chorale Chamber Orchestra and the music of Vaughan-Williams, Holst, and Finzi. By popular demand our Scottish-Irish festival returns for the 3rd time in our March Concert, and in our May Concert we celebrate the chorale glory of the Victorian age with "Pomp and Circumstance!"
Our additional community collaborations this year include:
- a performance of Borodin and Ravel with the Arapahoe Philharmonic in their November Concert;
- a performance as special guests of Sacred Landmarks and Historic Denver, Inc. in their Angels in the Architecture concert in January at St John's Cathedral; and,
- a special performance by the Empire Lyric Players of Gilbert and Sullivan's Trial by Jury at our February Showcase.
